Time Signature

Time Signature The time signature is found right after the Clef.  It has a top and a bottom number and looks like a fraction.    It tells us how many beats are in each measure.

4:4 Treble Clef

Here the top number tells us that there are 4 beats in a measure.

The bottom number tells us that each beat will be represented by a quarter note.
