D Dorian

The above diagram is all 5 forms of the Dorian scale.  It is just a Minor Pentatonic scale  the natural 2nd and 6th degrees added to each octave.   The Minor Pentatonic notes are in black.  The 2nd degree is orange and the 6th degree is in blue.  You should be very comfortable with Minor Pentatonic before learning this scale.

Important notes:

  • Is the 2nd mode of the Major scale.
  • Is used to solo over the minor 2 (ii) chord.
  • Is the same as Natural Minor Scale (Aeolian) with a raised 6th degree.
